Last night Joe and i caught the train out to Collingwood and went to an art exhibition opening for the stencil festival (graffiti). On the way there we stopped in at Borders because i had a couple of discount vouchers and i bought the DVD looking for Alibrandi, and a picture book called 'The big little book of happy sadness' by Colin Thompson. Its such a sweet wee book about a boy who is lonely and gets a 3 legged dog who was in line to be put down at the pound. And they become best friends and he makes him a new leg.
So after that we went to the exhbition. The stencil festival looks really good. http://www.stencilfest.net/ is the website. There was heaps of good stuff there that i really wanted to buy, but we have to get furniture this weekend so i couldn't. They were all pretty expensive anyway. There was this one artist called A1one from Iran whos work was very nice. I bumped into a girl from the backpackers we first stayed at and she said that he (A1one) was staying with them, so i got her to introduce me. I was a brave social lizzie last night :) He was so nice though and talked to me and Joe about his stuff and gave me a link to his website: http://tehranwalls.blogspot.com/. The festival said no photos so i managed to find some of the ones i loved the most on the internet:
From top photo: Urban girl in Tehran, Barber Shop and Soldier on Vinyl - all by A1one.
This one wasn't in the exhibition but i found it on the net and liked it. Apparantly he's been stenciling alot around Melbourne, in Fitzroy, so hopefully we can see some if it when we go on our walking tour next week.
This one is called 'Kitty' and is by an artist called X10. I was soooo close to buying this one, i love love love it but i didn't. Found a pretty good quality photo on the net so maybe i can print one out...
I also bought another book last night, its all about stencil graffiti in Melbs... http://www.stencilgraffiticapital.com Such a pretty book :)
Anyway i really have to get up now and go and do some more stuff! A busy exciting weekend planned. I'll take photos!
xoxo Love Lizzie
